The term pharmacovigilance refers to the science and process of supervising the safety of a medicine. It also involves taking actions to enhance the benefits of the medicines while reducing the side effects and risks of the same.

 

Pharmacovigilance is a part of the pharmacological science that is concerned with assessment, detection, understanding as well as prevention of the adverse effects of medicines especially that leave long and short term side effects. This is where the main focus of pharmacovigilance lies.

 

Those who have pharmacovigilance jobs have to collect and manage data regarding the efficacy and safety of medicines. They have to examine the data carefully to be able to detect the defects and make sure there are no safety issues with the particular medicine.
